| | | | | Peace On Your Wings (Ohana Arts) | |  “Peace On Your Wings” is a new musical inspired by the true story of Sadako Sasaki and her thousand paper cranes. Set in post-war 1950′s Japan, it explores the lives of students at a middle school in Hiroshima as they face the terminal illness of their friend amidst their own adolescent drama. The musical score combines modern pop and Japanese influences to create a unique, uplifting, and inspiring show that shares the message of peace told through the powerful voices of youth.
After a successful world premiere in Hawaii, and premieres in Los Angeles and New York, Ohana Arts will present a brand new Bay-Area "Peace On Your Wings" cast for the upcoming performances in San Jose, with support from the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California, Palo Alto Buddhist Temple, San Jose Betsuin, Buddhist Church of San Francisco, San Mateo Buddhist Temple, San Jose Taiko, and the San Francisco Girls Chorus. This new cast will include Bay Area youth, ages 6-18 who hail from San Jose, Los Gatos, Fremont, San Francisco, and San Ramon, who are excited to become ambassadors of Sadako’s story and peace movement.

Outcomes: • Understand the background and history of the Blueprint for Creative Schools and the CREATE CA initiative • Explore the Arts Education Data Project and its role in ensuring equitable access to high-quality, standards-based arts education • Discuss the strategy of creating a district-wide arts plan and hear examples from the field • Build knowledge of why and how arts education meets the eight state LCFF Priorities • Receive valuable updates on state and federal arts legislation that impacts school and district policies Date: Tuesday, October 10, 2017 Time: 11:30 A.M. – 3:00 P.M.
