Need money? Grants are a great way to get it. Here are some current arts-related grants, general grants, and funding sources that could be used for art supplies and materials. The Santa Clara County Office of Education also maintains a Grant Resource Center that provides information on how to write a grant and current funding sources. Grant Opportunities

ArtSPARK - Interested in taking an arts-based field trip? The new ArtSPARK program is offering them for Santa Clara County students in grades 3 and 4 this year....with more grades to come in future years. Deadline: Fall 2012 (specific date TBA)

Art4Moore - Art4Moore is a San Francisco based foundation that provides art supply grants to programs that serve children, including school districts. They have a revolving acceptance process. Grants $2,000 and under can be responded to in four weeks, while larger grants need full board approval and a longer process. Deadline: ongoing

ArtEveryDay - Ready your glue guns! To support this month's 30-Day Challenge on art, ArtEveryDay is offering a $500 grant to an individual/organization with an innovative plan for bringing the visual arts to their community. Submit an application now! Deadline: not noted

Art Room Aid - Need art supplies? DickBlick.com has resources just waiting for you. This website is set up in a similar manner to Donors Choose where site visitors can sponsor part or all of your art project. Check the website and submit your project. Deadline: none given

ArtWorks-  To support the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and the strengthening of communities through the arts. Within this category, all Arts Education projects will have Learning as their primary outcome. Innovative projects are strongly encouraged. Grants generally range from $10,000 to $100,000. The remaining deadline for this year is August 9th.

AT&T Inspire - There are a variety of grants here. The ones we recommend are those that are suggested and managed by students. Deadlines: varied

Bank of America- Bank of America is committed to creating meaningful change in the communities they serve through  philanthropic efforts, associate volunteerism, community development activities and investing, support of arts and culture programming and environmental initiatives. Barnes & Noble - As part of its commitment to good corporate citizenship, Barnes & Noble considers local and national support requests from non-profit organizations that focus on literacy, the arts or education (pre-K – 12).  They also consider sponsorship opportunities where we can partner with organizations that focus their core businesses on higher learning, literacy and the arts.

Blockbuster Children & Community Grant - Blockbuster will incorporate cash contributions with volunteerism and in-kind donations to assist nonprofits that propose projects with a film or video industry focus, impact children or families, support a particular Blockbuster business objective, and have clearly defined and measurable goals. Fender Music Foundation Grant - The Fender Music Foundation's mission is to aid non-profit music programs across America. The Foundation accepts grant applications throughout the year from 501(c)(3) organizations that are established, ongoing, and sustainable. Organizations should provide music instruction for people of any age who would not otherwise have the opportunity to learn. The Grant Committee reviews applications three times a year, and grant awards range from $500-5,000 in value. Deadline: rolling

HD Live in Schools - The Metropolitan Opera - The Metropolitan Opera's Live in HD series features opera performances transmitted live from the Met stage to movie theaters around the world and to students, teachers, and administrators across the nation. Teachers and students can experience the world's greatest singers in riveting productions – from a classic like Mozart's Don Giovanni to the extraordinary Anna Netrebko in Massenet's Manon, to the world premiere of an original Baroque pastiche, The Enchanted Island, featuring the legendary Plácido Domingo. Participating school districts will receive: tickets for students, teachers, and chaperones to attend select performances at local movie theaters, educator guides with comprehensive cross-curricular activities and tips to help teachers integrate the opera performances into their classroom teaching, professional development workshops for teachers, and media and publicity opportunities for districts.  Deadline: none provided

Hungry for Music - Hungry for Music provides musical instruments to individuals, schools, and community music programs that cannot afford them. Since the program began, the organization has donated over 1,000 instruments throughout the United States, Mexico, and India.

JPMorgan Chase Youth Education Grants - JPMorgan Chase provides grants to support early childhood literacy programs that engage students in the arts and technology. JPMorgan Chase also supports college prepatory programs for non-traditional and underserved students. There are some restrictions based on geographic location. Northern CA public schools partnered with a non-profit or those with a foundation and a 501c3 qualify. Deadline: rolling

Kinder Morgan Foundation - The Kinder Morgan Foundation gives grants primarily to K-12 educational programs. Funding is provided to local, state, and regional educational institutions, libraries, and programs that provide ongoing support. The Foundation also supports youth programs provided by local arts organizations, symphony orchestras, museums, and others that focus on education, the arts, and the environment. Eligible organizations must serve a community where Kinder Morgan has operations. Grants range between $1,000 and $5,000. Deadline: rolling

Partners in Arts Education Grants Program - The National Guild and MetLife Foundation will award up to $20,000 to exemplary community school of the arts and public school partnerships. Grant funds must be matched by funding from other sources. Eligible organizations must be members of the National Guild of Community Schools. (Non-member organizations should submit a membership application and first-year dues at least 1 week prior to submitting an application.) Organizations must also serve K-12 public school students in one of several specified cities and provide weekly sequential arts instruction during the 2011–2012 school year. Programs should serve large numbers of public school students, exemplify best practices in creating and sustaining effective partnerships, provide pedagogically-sound arts education experiences, prioritize student learning and achievement in the arts, and address national, state, or local arts education standards.

Reading, Writing & Rhythm Grants - Reading, Writing, and Rhythm is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving music education in America's public schools. The charity donates musical instruments to U.S. small or rural school music programs and raises public awareness of the importance of music education. Deadline: rolling

Service Grants Program (Taproot Foundation) - The Taproot Foundation offers professional consulting services as service grants. Each service grant is executed by a team of professionals who volunteer their time and expertise to help the community. To be eligible for a service grant, organizations should be a non-profit charitable organization, focus on the arts, the environment, health, social services, or K-12 education, have a budget of at least $350,000, and be headquartered in the following metropolitan areas: New York City, San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, Seattle, Washington DC, and Los Angeles. This is a great opportunity for any organizations or districts needing assistance with stratetic planning in the arts. Deadline: September 1, December 1, March 1, June 1

Silicon Valley Education Foundation - SVEF grants supplement rather than supplant regular district funding. SVEF will support the purchase of equipment and materials which go beyond school budgets but will not support the purchase of ordinary school supplies such as paper, pencils and pens which are part of the school budget.  Applicants must submit two lesson plans to the SVEF Lessonopoly site as a sample of their professional work. Grants should have a focus area in a subject other than art and use art to reinforce other subjects in order to be competitive. Deadline: rolling

Target: Bringing The Arts Into Schools-  Music, art, dance, drama and visual arts are all part of the well-rounded education our kids deserve. Through grants, Target helps schools bring more arts and culture into the classroom, enabling them to expand their creativity... and their horizons. Art and Culture in Schools Grants are $2,000. Grant applications are typically accepted between March 1 and April 30 each year.
