| How can you get involved in supporting the arts in your school or district?
Here are some suggested starting places:
• Support student art displays, theatre shows, music performances, choirs and other arts learning. • Start an arts education award program in your city. • Donate arts supplies and materials for classroom use. • Support student arts organizations. • Talk to your local principal or school board about the importance of arts education. • Encourage your local school board to adopt a resolution supporting the arts. • Volunteer in your local school to help with classroom arts activities. • Write a letter to the editor of your local paper about the importance of the arts and your personal experiences with the arts. • Advocate for displays of student artwork in your local community and businesses. • Sign up for Artspiration’s email blasts and share them with others. • Honor and recognize arts specialist teachers, teaching artists and classroom teachers who use the arts in classroom instruction. • Serve as a member of a school district arts steering committee. • Support artist residencies and student field trips to museums, performances and other arts-related events. • Request that careers in the arts be included in your local school’s Career Day.
